The other day two men were killed and another wounded. They were on manoeuvres and chanced upon a land mine. Of the two who were killed one was French and another a native trooper. Armand Aubigny, one of the main characters in Desiree�s Baby by Kate Chopin, experiences this exact dilemma throughout this short story.
